Easy. Instant. Simple. These words are a staple in my vocabulary since becoming a mother. It encompasses what little time I have to think about fueling my body with something of substance to keep me chugging through the busy day. I’ve found since my twin pregnancy, my go-to for easy, instant, simple nourishment has been smoothies or green juices. I was petrified about how many calories I needed to consume during my pregnancy and thank goodness for eating a 75% Paleo lifestyle, as I could consume a ton of protein. The best piece of advice I received from another twin mama was to incorporate 1 protein smoothie a day to increase calorie intake. This was a win. It was so tasty and I was always craving something fruity and cold. Perfect for you pregnant mamas this summer. Especially when the last thing you want to do is consume even more food in your third trimester. I swear I had no more space for food to go! Add 1 scoop of your favorite protein powder to the smoothie recipes below. I loved having mine at night as a late night snack :) Fast forward to 2 years post baby, still trying to loose those last 10 lbs from the pregnancy and being exhausted. I’ve recently switched up my morning routine to start my day with an acai bowl smoothie topped with superfoods to eliminate the snacking throughout the morning. The best part, it’s a win win as the kids LOVE green juices and smoothies, so we share the yum between all three of us. It makes for a fun, colorful, interactive food presentation for the kids and you can hide all types of ingredients in the smoothies. Acai smoothie bowls that you find in restaurants are way too sweet for me, packed with sugar to break up the taste. Making them at home allows me to regulate how much sugar we'll be consuming. Favorite Acai smoothie bowl: • 1 packet unsweetened amazon planet frozen acai - whole foods • 1 handful of kale or spinach or a mix • 1/2 lemon squeezed • maple water or coconut water • fresh mint/parsley (amount to preference) Dump into Blendtec and smoothie blend. I add extra ice at the end to make it less juicey and easier for the kids to spoon. Place your acai smoothie into a bowl and add toppings • Hemp hearts • Chia seeds • Shredded coconut • Fresh berries • Goji berries Drizzle a little local honey on the kiddos bowls **I give them a straw at the end so they can drink the remaining. NOTE. this is best eaten with a bib or naked as it will most definitely stain kiddos clothes. Favorite Green Smoothie:
• 1 individual bag of fresh start organic smoothie blend (apple, pineapple, kale, broccoli) - costco • 1 handful of kale or spinach or a mix • 2 stalks of celery • 1/4 cucumber • 1 lemon squeezed • maple water or coconut water • fresh mint/parsley (amount to preference) *small piece of ginger if I’m up for it Dump into Blendtec and smoothie blend. For the adults: • Add a mix of superfoods with remaining smoothie after divided for kiddos. • Add a teaspoon of Philosophie Green Dream or Perfect Fit Protein, for protein. • For morning energy I add a teaspoon of Organic Burst chlorella, maca and baobab. • If you are making a smoothie for yourself only and need some energy in the morning I use 1 amazon plant frozen acai energy blend packet (makes 2 tall smoothies) For inspiring recipes and gorgeous Instagram feed for your morning reading check out: Smoothie Bowls
