With cooler temperatures (finally) on the horizon, we are all feeling a bit stir crazy; but getting out and about with multiples is easier said than done sometimes. Not only is it like herding cats, it can be nerve-racking to even think about being outnumbered and in public. So, here are some of the top tips for getting over the fear and out the door from other moms of multiples (MoMs):
Come up with a list of go-to spots
When you have a short list of places you know, feel comfortable with, and can feel prepared for, going out with your multiples becomes a breeze! Before you know it you will feel like a pro. One of the best resources for making a short list? Your PVMOM Birth Year groups! Birth Year groups take tribal knowledge to a whole new level. Need a kid-friendly restaurant recommendation? Best parks in your area? Ideas for kids at different ages and stages? They've got your back.
2. Do a dry run
As silly as it might sound, if you don't quite know how to start going out with your littles, start by calling in backup, whether it is a friend, family member, or another MoM from our group. Sometimes just knowing that there is someone else on hand to grab a run-away toddler or toss you an extra wipe can make all the difference in building up your confidence. Take the time to identify some game-changing tactics and smooth out the wrinkles a bit. Key things you might want to figure out are good places park your stroller, where the bathrooms are, if outside food is an issue, and if there is anything special you need to bring, like grippy socks.
Prep the night before
Getting out the door takes enough coordination as it is, so pre-pack your snacks and diaper bag the night before! We love this diaper bag because it's two level helps so much with organization. Grab extra changes of clothes, sunblock, and the water bottles that always seem to walk away at the last minute. Extra points for throwing it all in the car before you call it a day!
Having the right tools can also help keep things going smoothly as you pack up. We love these reusable snack and sandwich bags for making dividing things up easy. Snack stackers and toddler-tested water bottles like these ones definitely get you on the move faster and easier.
Snacks, snacks, and more snacks
Think of snacks as your new best friend. Need to load up to head home? Car snacks. Want to keep your little one relaxed for a few minutes in the stroller? Stroller snacks. Have to keep new walkers moving? Look there is a bench ahead, let's have a little snack! And if you think you grabbed enough snacks, maybe through one or two more in the bag for good measure.
Plan a playdate with other MoMs
If you are nervous about getting out of the house or if you just don't want to go at it alone, solidarity sister. Plan a playdate with another mom of multiples (MoM). First of all, we totally get the chaos and we are right there with you. But because we know how to juggle our multiples, we are able to help each other in a really special way. In our experience, MoMs make an awesome team during play dates and meet ups which makes it easier, less stress, and a lot more fun for everyone. Don't know any other MoMs? Join PVMOM to find your new crew. We've got your back!
